I struggle to work in my office without music in the background, but I can't have the radio, the DJ chatter is too distracting, and I'm still a CD or vinyl person, not jumped on the Spotify revolution yet.
Being a dimwit I can't speak any other languages except English, so if I'm concentrating on writing, I like to have foreign voices singing, so I'm not distracted by lyrics. I have a few favourites from 1960s France, especially from the Yeh-Yeh category of French female pop singers. Brigitte Bardot's musical output isn't strictly Yeh-Yeh, but it's close enough, and a best of BB CD get regular spins.
Many of her songs were written by another favourite of mine, Gallic, alcoholic, fish-eyed, free spirit/pervert (depending on your angle) Serge Gainsbourg, including this tune, an ode to the iconic Milwaukee twin.
Below are the lyrics in the original French and also in English, translated by Lyrics Translate
Feel free to sing-along with the French bombshell as you enjoy the video of her strutting around the chopped Panhead.
Harley Davidson Lyrics English
I don't need anybody When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I don't acknowledge anyone any more1 When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I push the starter button And bam! I leave the world behind. Maybe I'll go to Paradise But in a train to Hell.
I don't need anybody When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I don't acknowledge anyone any more When I'm on my Harley Davidson! And if I die tomorrow, That was meant to be my fate. I value my life a lot less Than my rockin' bike.
I don't need anybody When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I don't acknowledge anyone any more When I'm on my Harley Davidson! When I feel the urge to travel, The vibrations of my bike Make me hot In my crotch.
I don't need anybody When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I don't acknowledge anyone any more When I'm on my Harley Davidson! I'm doing over a hundred And I feel on fire. I don't care if I die So long as my hair is in the wind!
