A couple of weekends ago the DTRA ran two days of practice at Greenfield Dirt Track in Lincolnshire, UK. The classes were split and riders had to choose if they wanted to ride on Saturday or Sunday, social distancing meaning the numbers were limited. These are some of the most eye-catching bikes (and people) from the weekend.
The first three photos are Lucky Luke (with his Sideburn x Biltwell goggles) and Harley WL flathead racer . Luke is a tattooer who runs Hard Luck with James 'Leftie' Smith (more on him soon). He's an old Harley aficionado and also came up with the illustration for our Racing Cat and KR750 cat T-shirt.
Luke talking to Vintage racer Jon Dyer...
Jon here on his BSA single with his ancient Giudici boots.
The DTRA Vintage class doesn't have a tyre rule, so Jon fits speedway/trials tyres that often seem to give him an edge over regular flat track tyres, especially on over-watered tracks.
A couple of recent Sideburn feature bikes were there on Sunday. Jon Bell's SR500 from Sideburn 40 and...
Danny's 'brand new' Astro from Sideburn 41.
Ben was there on his handsome Bultaco too.
Chris finally got a chance to ride his new Rotax Thunderbike - read more about it in this blog post.
There were plenty of Thunderbikes in attendance. This Rotax used to be Grant Martin's. I didn't catch the name of the new owner who has rebuilt and tarted it up nicely.
This was another modified CCM Rotax Thunderbike I didn't recognise.
Leftie of Sudo Cycles was there with his just finished Co-Built Rotax (soon to be featured in Sideburn).
Tim chose to ride his Yamaha SR500 rather than his Harley. We recently posted a monster blog from Tim on his Harley XG750 hooligan Max Hunt and his Scrambler hooligan is in the background
Jonny and his KTM Duke Thunderbike, with Geoff Co-Built karate-chopping
Barry the Punk has given his Thunderbike an overhaul. He was there on Saturday, but Max Inman got a snap of him for us.
This GS500 reminds me of the early days of Short Track UK when there were a lot more oddball bikes in the mix. There's Max Hunt in the background again with the neat new swingarm on his Scrambler hooligan.
A more radical looking Ducati Scrambler hooligan was tested on Saturday by rapid teenager Jack Bell.
Sideburn 35 cover star Steph turned up on her new Bultaco. Jen from 250London came to take photos.
There were lots of women riders on Sunday, including Chrissie on her 250London themed DTX and...
British Superbike and TT racer Jenny Tinmouth.
Good vibes all day. Thanks to the DTRA, Greenfield Dirt Track and all their staff and volunteers.
