Cars and Women 3

Off-Topic Easter Monday. A couple of years ago, time really does fly, I posted up two posts on the old Sideburn blog entitled Cars and Women. They were photos of 1960s and 70s concept cars often shot on location with cutting edge, night club fashion of the day. While models are still employed at major car and motorcycle shows, this photograph style is desperate for an ironic, nod and a wink comeback. It was time for another off-topic post at the very least.

This car is the Alfa Romeo Carabo, which, according to five minutes research, is a 1968 design by Marcello Gandini, who was working for the famous Bertone design studio, and who went on to design the Lamborghini Countach, and the Carabo had scissor doors before the Lamborghini. The list of cars credited to Gandini is a Fast and Furious fans' wet dream. Eight Lamborghinis, the Lancia Stratos, five Maseratis, Renault 5 Turbo, Alfa Montreal, Ferrari Dino 308GT4, Fiat X1/9 and the 1990s mini-cabbers' fave, the Citroen BX. What a legend.

The Carabo is named after a family of beetles, the Carabidae, because of it's jewel-like green and orange colour, reminiscent of the bug's shell. The Carabo is regarded as one of the most influential of all the 'wedge' concept cars.

(This is Cars and Women 3. The previous two posts can be found at the old Sideburn blog).
